Blogging Do's and Do Not's

Do ask for help. For children in younger classes, we hope that parents and older brothers and sisters will help to create the blog – make it a family activity!

Do write regularly. Writing regularly is the best way to keep people coming back to your blog.

Do write well. Try not to get into the habit of lazy, poor grammar, spelling, and punctuation. No ‘text speak’ please!

Don’t give personal information.  Never give your surname, your address, telephone number or any other personal information.

Do not use the blog as direct communication. Your blog is not the same as email or text messaging; this is not a chat room. It can be read by anyone with an internet connection. Make sure that you write things that will be of interest to everyone.

:/ Do not enlarge the smileys.
The smiley faces and pictures are designed to be discrete additions to your text. Please do not make them bigger.

What should I write on my blog?

  • How about a five-year diary? In the early 1900’s, it was not uncommon for people to keep a five-year diary. Imagine keeping a Five-Year Diary on the Internet. How fun it would be to look back on your childhood years!
  • A journal – a journal can have a specific focus – you could choose to keep a sports journal, a Hazlemere journal, a prayer journal, a music journal – the choice is yours!
  • A poetry and writing anthology – what an amazing way to publish your poems, stories and creative writing. Why not aim to publish one poem each week, or an exciting story – chapter by chapter?
  • Do you love movies or books? Now is your chance to be a critic! Write a review of music you have listened to, books you have read, films you have ever seen? There are so many possibilities!
  • Are you are real jokester? Be the first person with a Joke Blog! Many children love telling jokes, but do you like to write you own jokes? Share them with everyone!
